1126 Incidental Finding of Thyroid Papillary Carcinoma in a Thyroglossal Duct Cyst

Abstract Introduction Thyroglossal cyst is one of the most common benign congenital neck lumps, however, incidental malignancy in these cysts a rare entity with incidence rate <1%. Method We present case 35-year-old female, who presented an asymptomatic midline mass. ultrasound confirmed 3.5 cm thyroglossal duct (TDC). She underwent Sistrunk procedure to excise cyst. On histological examination, there was finding papillary cell carcinoma. After multidisciplinary discussion, patient opted for total thyroidectomy. histology left lobe thyroid had 2.2 mm microcarcinoma. Discussion Dilemma arises during managing Various management options have been described literature. This includes thyroidectomy or without regional lymph node dissection, radioactive iodine, suppressive thyroxine wait and watch. Conclusions highlights importance sending excised TDC as it can lead early diagnosis allows adequate management.
